Several NASA astronauts have gone on record to state their beliefs in UFOs, their origin, and of extra-terrestrial life. Perhaps none more passionately and consistently though than, Gordon Cooper. Right up until his death in 2004, Cooper continued to speak out. He would speak about what he clearly came to see as a conspiracy of the withholding of evidence and information. Thanks for the constructive response. Both he and Mitchell made it clear they had never encountered UFOs on their space missions nor had any of the other astronauts they knew in Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo. I believe them.
Cooper’s story [told decades later] about the 1957 Edwards landing is fascinating, in that his account conflicts with every other witness and document [all other sources agree there never was any landing. landing gear deployment, or coverup]. His later years, with advancing Parkinson’s, were characterized by a long series of stories that grew more and more fantastical, including the current “Cooper’s Treasure” program on ‘Discovery’, that appears to be entirely imaginary. Sad that his 1960s heroics were followed by pitiful declining years.
Cooper did speak with great frustration about how the government controlled all information about ufo related matters. I have not combed his comments referencing NASA specifically but my recollection is he attributed the control to a well organized group with great power that had overwatch of the military, the Dept. Of State & all other departments including NASA. I don’t recall he ever speculated how this overwatch group operated within the government nor do I recall he referenced the group’s existence but he certainly recognized the power and effectiveness.
