The Tammy Stone Abduction – The Waco Incident

The alleged alien abduction of Tammy Stone in early March 1973 is one that was pieced together by Tammy herself through a series of intense and disturbing dreams in the days immediately following the bizarre encounter near the Texan town of Waco. An encounter which left her with a three-hour window which she had no memory for or recollection of.

Waco UFO

As we have examined before, 1973 was an extremely active year for not just UFO sightings, but close encounters with humanoid entities and cases of abduction. The case of Tammy Stone is but one of hundreds of reported incidents that year. However, a similar encounter in August 1972 involving a (then) serving US airman and only slightly over one-hundred miles away near the small town of Mercury, shares many details with Stone’s incident. Not least, as we will look at later, a considerable portion of time for which the witness had no memory at all.

A Sudden “Dreamy” Feeling On The Way Home

Twenty-four-year-old waitress, Tammy Stone was coming to the end of her late-night shift at the diner where she worked in a small town around thirty miles outside of Waco, Texas. It was around 2 am when she finally set out in her car on the way home to her apartment. She had been driving for only fifteen minutes when she suddenly began to feel a bizarre and frightening sensation take over her body.

Tammy suddenly felt “dreamy” and docile, as if she had been drugged. She would recall how something also caused pain in her ears which, in turn, caused everything to become “muffled”. Furthermore, she had sudden waves of dizziness and nausea running through her. The fact that she had no idea why she felt these strange and sudden symptoms perhaps made them even more acute. Despite this, she eventually managed to guide her vehicle home.

She pulled the vehicle to its usual parking space and made her way into her apartment, still feeling decidedly unwell. However, as she was preparing to go to bed, she realized it was after 5 am. She had no memory of the apparent three hours it had taken to arrive back home from the diner. Confused but in need of sleep, she went to bed.

Over the coming days and nights, though, whenever Tammy did sleep, she would experience intensely realistic nightmares. All of which Tammy came to realize were apparently repressed memories of the mysterious three hours she lost on the drive home from the diner. Slowly, she began to piece together a timeline of perhaps the most extraordinary night of her life.

Intense And Disturbing Dreams

According to the strange dreams, as she was driving along the lonely road, two strange figures came out of nowhere. They came directly towards her car, which was now coming to a stop, its engine and lights suddenly dead. These strange creatures were around five feet tall and had extremely thin faces. Each donned a “light blue one-piece uniform and a tight-fitting cap”.

She remained motionless in the car, her body not willing to respond to any internal commands to run away. Then, the driver’s door opened, and she realized one of the figures was directly outside. Before she could think or react, both of the menacing figures grabbed at her, dragging her from the car and taking her by her ankles to a nearby metallic craft.

Suddenly, she found herself in a cold, dark room. She was laid on an equally cold table and her clothes were stripped away from her. Tammy cast her eyes around the room. She could see there were around six other creatures in the room now. Each stood around the table looking down at her, some occasionally performing one kind of procedure of another.

Most strong in her memories is of a “cold, metallic device” being placed in her right nostril. It was kept in place for several minutes before being removed, its job apparently complete. All the while these examinations were taking place, Tammy would recall, “A small machine hovered over me like a big eye. And made a humming noise that made me feel very sick”.

Then, she was stood away from the table, the strange creatures dressing her, the procedure apparently complete. They would carry her to the car and place her in the passenger seat.

The Mercury Abduction Case

She had no memory of waking or of transferring herself to the driver’s seat. Her next clear memory is of arriving home, feeling extremely ill. The encounter remains unexplained.

While there were multiple similar encounters to that of Tammy Stone across the United States throughout 1973, particularly towards the end of the year, another apparent abduction case in Texas occurred less than a year earlier in August 1972 just over one-hundred miles away near the town of Mercury. The incident came to MUFON’s attention and the witness considered largely very credible given his US Air Force background. At the time, the unnamed witness, was a serving airman, and was on leave and heading to Laredo, Texas with his wife and young daughter. He was due to for dispatch to Thailand very shortly, so they would stay there with family until he returned.

They had set off in the early afternoon. A make-shift crib was set up on the back seat for his one-year-old daughter, and their young Labrador puppy was comfortable in a dog-carrier at the back of the vehicle. He and his wife would sit up front. It would be a long trip, but one they hoped to make with as few stops as possible.

All was normal with their journey to begin with. Then, shortly after midnight, things changed.

A Stretch Of Road That “Went On Forever!

By 2 am they were on “a long dark stretch of road that went on forever”. Only the witness was awake at this stage, his wife asleep in the passenger seat beside him. Suddenly, he could see what he thought was a roadblock ahead of them. A “reflection of cross-stripes” shined back at him from his headlights. It was only as he got a little closer that he started to question why an active roadblock would be on such a lonely road in the middle of the night.

The witness quickly checked his speed. He was currently traveling around seventy miles per hour and so would be right on top of it very shortly. He began to reduce his speed slightly and attempted to wake his wife. However, the closer he got to the strange block he began to realize there was nobody at it. Furthermore, all he could see was the low-lying structure with the cross-stripes on it.

Then, from the back of his car, the family puppy began to howl wildly and in a greatly agitated state. The sound unnerved the witness, as it did his wife, who was now awake and somehow feeling that “they were in great danger”. The puppy continued howling until they were past the mysterious roadblock.

The witness pressed his foot down on the gas pedal once again, the car picking up speed. He would recall in his report that “something told me to go and not to stop”. As they rounded past the apparent roadblock, though, both he and his wife noticed “a strange setup, like three raised platforms, raised around a cleared center area”. The area glowed with “very bright lights”. It was then they could see the “many men, or not”.

The Roadside Store

The witness thought they were men but there was something “different” about them. They were “very white in coloring” and each wore tight blue overalls. They were moving around with alacrity and there were numerous pieces of strange equipment about the place. Interestingly, whether it was a difference in memory or a difference in perception, the witness’s wife remembered the figures to have blue skin and white overalls.

By then, their vehicle was past the scene, moving at around seventy-five miles per hour, a speed at which he maintained for close to an hour. Eventually, when he was certain that there was enough distance between the bizarre activity behind them and their current location, he began to ease off the accelerator. Feeling extremely tired, when he noticed the lights of a store – albeit closed – he would suggest that they pull the car over and rest there for the evening. His wife agreed.

After bringing their vehicle to a stop, he quickly went to the back of the closed store to visit the toilet. As he made his way back he took in the almost picturesque surroundings, right down to the hanging sign that swung in the breeze. He got back into the car, and along with his wife, closed his eyes for some much-needed sleep.

Then, came the tap at the window.

Awaking In The Desert!

He opened his eyes in response to the urgent knocking. He could see a man looking in at him asking if they were OK. As the witness came to fully, realizing how surprisingly refreshed he felt, the mysterious man asked how the accident had happened. When pressed as to what accident he was referring to, the man would reveal that their car was over fifty yards from the road in the middle of the desert. The man was driving by when he noticed them.

The witness looked around his surroundings, realizing it was bright daylight. His wife was also now beginning to wake up. He replied to the stranger that he was fine and then stood to take in the vicinity in a little more detail, confusion beginning to stir all the more as he did so.

The quaint sign swinging in the breeze the previous evening was now gone. As was the store itself. They were indeed in a clearing some distance from the highway. He also noticed considerable damage to the underside of his vehicle with no memory as to how the damage occurred.

The family would travel on as far as they could until they arrived in the town of Mercury. There, repairs to the vehicle caused them to sell some of their possessions in order to repair it. It was almost a decade later when he would report the incident. How their vehicle was transported to the middle of the desert and when during the early hours this happened, remains a mystery. As does whether there is a connection to the similar encounter of Tammy Stone.
